Welcome to the Nanticoke Class page. Here you can see some of our displays and find out what we have been doing recently. Nanticoke Class consists of Years 1 and 2 and is taught by Mr Pond and Mrs Knighton.

Looking back at the Spring Term: We were very lucky to have visits from the Police and Fire Service who have been helping us learn how to stay safe.

We have been learning about how to plant seeds and what plants need to grow healthy and strong. We also planted some plants to be sold at the Spring Fete in March.

We took part in the RSPB Birdwatch this year. We went out into the school grounds to survey the birds that we could see. We used the results in our maths lessons to make tally charts and graphs. This term we have been investigating how to make different types of towers. Here is one that we were really proud of.

Looking back at the Autumn Term: The whole school decorated their classroom doors for National Poetry day. We chose Funnybones by Janet and Allan Ahlberg. This term’s topic has been on traditional tales, concentrating on the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We have been writing about whether Goldilocks really should have said sorry to the bears – especially Baby Bear!

As part of the transition into a new class, children have all painted pictures of themselves and written about the sort of things that they like to do. Our maths wall is designed to help support the children’s learning in maths. We are currently learning our 2, 5 and 10 times tables. We also have lots of resources to help with all areas of numeracy.

We have been learning about light and dark since half term. Investigations have included how shadows are formed and how to make shadows bigger and smaller. We have also investigated which materials light will pass through.

The local nurse came into our class to show us how to look after our hair and teeth. The children also learned how to wash their hands properly. During Road Safety Week children had the chance to carry out role play activities to learn how to stay safe on the road.
