Indian Queens School Learning Challenge Curriculum

Welcome to the Learning Challenge Curriculum Key Stage 2 page where you can find details about special events that trigger learning about new topics at the school. A huge thank you to everyone who brought vehicles to the school for the recent vehicle day including Jim, Rob and everyone at Queens Garage, Mr Kitts, Mr Simmonds, Mr Lobb, Mr Vincent and Mr Tozer.

In the second half of the Spring Term we were lucky enough to be visited by a range of classic and vintage vehicles that were kindly lent to the school for the children to take a close look at. Below we can see a 1979 V12 E-Type Jaguar and a minature traction engine. The classes examined and drew each vehicle and thought about how vehicles had developed over time.

Not only cars and traction engines were brought along but also lorries, motorbikes and tractors. Seeing the vehicles stirred up a lot of debate about which form was best for different activities.

The oldest vehicle on show was this 1929 Alvis. The children wondered how it could be driven with the controls in different positions to modern cars. The later Mark 10 Jaguar had a more convention, and luxurious, interior.

In the first half of the Spring Term we had a 'Big Art Day' where all of Key Stage 2 selected their favourite form of art from a selection of seven. Here you can see some examples, this day led on to lots of exciting learning about art and allowed the children to appreciate how much effort goes into a really top quality piece of artwork.

Looking back at the Autumn Term 'Wow' moments: Why was Henry VIII so special? To help us find out we invited him in to school and he was thrilled to come along and answer allsorts of questions while also explain how life in Tudor times was traumatic for him...but more so for his wives! Amazingly a meteorite landed in the playground! It glowed green and gave off an eerie sound. The scientists on hand noticed the meteorite was hot but was perfectly safe to the relief of everyone concerned. The scientists ran tests and set up an incident lab where each class was invited to come and investigate the science behind the meteorite impact. By the end of the day the meteorite was cleared away for further testing. All the children thoroughly enjoyed the event. This spectacle created quite a stir and allowed the children to get in touch and understand space which can often be so out of reach. Thank you to all those who supported the event and to read more click on the Newquay Voice article link at the bottom of the page.
