Citizenship Day at County Hall

2nd April 2019

As part of 'Citizenship Day', Year 6 visited County Hall to learn about citizenship on a national and local level. The children were given a rare opportunity to discuss important topics in the debating chamber with serving councillors - who kindly gave up their time to help the children learn about the democratic process.

It was discovered that we have some budding potential politicians who are prepared to ask, and give their views on, difficult questions of national, local and international importance.

All the councillors talked about their roles in the council and fielded questions from the children. The classes learnt about how difficult it is to set a budget - especially where you have to prioritise certain areas over others - while also keeping everyone in your constituency happy. No easy task!

Thanks to our local councillor Mr. Dick Cole, Mrs. Mary May (who is the Chairman of Cornwall Council), Cllr Dominic Fairman and Cllr James Mustoe.
