Citizenship Day at Shelter Box

2nd April 2019

To learn about global citizenship, Year 6 visited Shelter Box in Truro to find out how disaster relief is provided to crisis zones around the world. Both classes packed emergency kits and learnt about the logistics of supplying aid boxes internationally.
During the visit, the classes learnt about how items have been developed for use in crisis areas, ranging from the led lights, that were incredibly simple but effective, to the structures of the shelters that need to protect from harsh sun as well as extreme cold.
Year 6 now appreciate how devastating natural disasters can be and how lucky they are to live in a stable climate. The children really wanted to help people who have been affected by natural disasters and have lost everything. They came up with the idea of supporting the charity in the Summer Term by donating a portion of the money they plan to raise from their Summer Fair stalls.
