Reuben Arthur Visit

19th June 2018

On Tuesday 19th June, Commonwealth 100m relay gold medallist Reuben Arthur visited the school. He worked with every class emphasising the importance of fitness and determination in sport. All the children thoroughly enjoyed the day and we would like to say a huge 'thank you' to Reuben for making the day such a success.

Reuben started the day with an assembly for each key stage where he told everyone about his background and his achievements. He showed the children how to start races and how he trained. The children realised that to reach the top, talent was important but determination made the real difference. During the day each class participated in a high-tempo fitness session with Reuben.

Even though Reuben had set off from London in the early hours, he was really eager to work with all the children at our school. The highlight of the day for lots of the children was having the opportunity to race a gold medallist across our school field. Reuben gave all the children a 20m head start but he still managed to catch up and overtake everyone. Reuben brought in and allowed lots of the children to wear his gold and bronze medals from the Commonwealth Games. He is due to run in the televised national finals very soon. At the end of the session Reuben was kind enough to take questions and even stayed for clubs.
