Year 6 Emergency Storm Shelters

Year have started the year by learning about hurricanes and natural disasters. They designed and made emergency shelters for disaster survivors that could quickly be set up, provide shelter and a way of collecting fresh rainwater.
The children worked in groups and had to learn to tie knots while also thinking about which knots were the safest to use. Kiowa and Paiute used the 'Faraway Forest' to pitch their shelters before the teachers tested them with simulated storm conditions in the form of hose pipes and watering cans. Most stayed dry...
